This is going to be a future-proof measure that's going to help with #367 . Presumably, in the future, different versions might require different procedures for upgrading. Say some might need generation of extra key, some might require inputting extra endpoint for some data, etc. If we have notion of current version, this will all be way simpler to figure out.
