How about using Path.readdir_unsorted here? It's probably overkill, but it will make the error a bit nicer if the user messed up permissions somehow.

Hmm, I'm not sure is completely necessary here. In the case of the file_tree, it seems important as we are reporting an error for a directory somewhere far from where the user ran dune, so it's not obvious why dune is not happy. In this case, we are reporting an error for the current directory and it's going to be no surprise that dune complains if the current dir is not readable.
That said, we should probably have a special case for Sys_error in report_error.ml, so that we don't print exception Sys_error(...) which is indeed ugly.

CHANGES: - Restricted the set of variables available for expansion in the destination filename of `install` stanza to simplify implementation and avoid dependency cycles. (ocaml/dune#2073, @aalekseyev, @diml) - [menhir] call menhir from context root build_dir (ocaml/dune#2067, @ejgallego, review by @diml, @rgrinberg) - [coq] Add `coq.pp` stanza to help with pre-processing of grammar files (ocaml/dune#2054, @ejgallego, review by @rgrinberg) - Add a new more generic form for the *promote* mode: `(promote (until-clean) (into <dir>))` (ocaml/dune#2068, @diml) - Allow to promote only a subset of the targets via `(promote (only <pred>))`. We might as well use this new module rather than do the call to
gitmanually. Additionally, this gives us hg support indune subst.
