Note that #188 was a draft because upon actually testing the rsync backend @mtelvers and i encountered several bugs (some sort of weird deadlock and other problems)

We need this new parameter anyway as the function changed in OBuilder, do you think we should default to copy or hardlink instead?

I think it should probably be a mandatory configuration option when the rsync backend is used.
