Visualizar 15 MediaLab Prado
Welcome to the seismometer wiki! Our project was selected to participate in Visualizar15 at MediaLab Prado from 5 to 20 May in Madrid. Most public administrations publish who runs which parts of their structure online. Some publish an opendata file to record who is who and they update it regularly. The autonomous government of Catalonia published such a file here and MV created the seismometer, a tool to monitor changes by comparing today's file to yesterday's file everyday, plus an [http://opengov.cat/en/2014/07/how-to-contribute-to-the-seismograph-jpd14/](API with only one access point) About two years later, the file is no longer published, so PG has started to create a similar file from scratch and opened this new opengovcat github site. So far we were using the file for these datavisualizations of the organization charts of some Departments of the Generalitat. At Medialab Prado we have been doing a lot of work. 1- PG remote working from Barcelona is in the process of creating a daily file similar to the one the Generalitat used to publish, so the seismometer can keep on doing its monitoring job. 2- NS in Madrid and CG from Barcelona are working on the SQL to improve the seismometer API. There was a big problem: the original Generalitat files did not contain information about date of creation. So a parallel process has been to clean up all the daily files since April 2013... by creating them again! 3- MK who is around Medialab gave us very good advice about changing our interface to bring our data closer to citizens. He drew a basic design with tips about what to include: basic headlines, basic info, basic figures automatically updated from our API to attract more people to our website. So we are planning to include this on our redesigned website soon. 3- For this project we decided to focus on the new entities that the Generalitat have created as part of their structure from April 2013 until now and sort them out by department. Once the API can access this type of information we will be able to make sense of the data we have stored. That's why improving the SQL is fundamental. 4- Once we have an xls file or similar with info about id- id for entity iddep- id for dept it belongs to name of entity person responsible date of creation
We will be able to find out what this entities do who those people are how much they cost and write stories of public interest about the whole thing.
CC is coordinating the project so far with PG which means giving out work to wonderful collaborators, communicating with everybody around and writing this.
