The territories either didn't respond or responded negatively to requests for shapefiles (elections.yukon@gov.yk.ca, electionsnwt@gov.nt.ca, info@elections.nu.ca). Google has boundaries, uploaded by James Swansburg, CTO of Landmax Canada, a real estate brokerage, but these don't correspond to electoral boundaries. CloudMade has OpenStreetMap-based boundaries, but the *.shapefiles.zip
files seem to be useless.
We currently use Census subdivisions. Alternatives include:
- GeoBase Municipal Boundaries (SK, MB, ON, QC, NB, YT, NT, NU)
- StatCan Urban Area Boundary files
- Manitoba Land Initiative registration required
- AltaLIS (AB) Municipal Boundary file $625 and then $200/year
- Information Services Corporation (SK) Administrative Boundary Overlays $160/year
- Geomatics Yukon Municipal Boundaries
- Elections PEI as KML or SHP
DataBC offers school, police and other district boundaries.
