On FreeBSD vnode reclamation is single-threaded, protected by single
global lock. Linux seems to be able to use a thread per mount point,
but at this time it creates more harm than good.

Reduce number of threads to 1, adding tunable in case somebody wants to try more.

Types of changes

  • Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • Performance enhancement (non-breaking change which improves efficiency)
  • Code cleanup (non-breaking change which makes code smaller or more readable)
  • Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to change)
  • Library ABI change (libzfs, libzfs_core, libnvpair, libuutil and libzfsbootenv)
  • Documentation (a change to man pages or other documentation)

Looks good. Can you just add the new prune_task_threads option to the man/man4/zfs.4 man page.

I was not sure whether I want to expose it widely, but added since you asked.
