How to get project assigned to us? Or we have to just fork any and generate PR??

You have to go to the issues tab of the project you want to contribute to and
either
a)comment on any existing issue to get it assigned to you by the project admin
b) create any issue you find in the repo and get it assigned to you by the project admin

see what kind of issue you want to solve "LEVEL 1" ,"LEVEL 2 " and "LEVEL 3".
once the issue assigned to you start solving and raise pr , if your solution correct ,your pr will be got merged
