Anyone got a fix? I am having the same issue and created a reinstatement request in github support here https://support.github.com/contact/reinstatement but not sure it's the proper way to fix this. Please anyone tell me if you fix the same issue? |

Similar thing happened to me. I contacted support and they solved the issue in 10 minutes. They say sometimes their abuse detecting systems highlight accounts that need to be manually reviewed. Other than that, it is not clear why. |

What worked for me: I was part of a GitHub organization, which paid for all of their members. I have the suspicion, that a GitHub-Pro subscription might improve the reaction time for support tickets, For me, as a consequence of all of this, I'm using different platforms and servers as a backup. |

The official statistics shows that in 2023 less than 3% of hidden accounts were unhidden (683 unhide cases): I suppose that these remaining 97% are deliberate or unamendable TOS violations and/or throwaway accounts. It's not clear what is taken for 100% (28632 cases): is it the overall hidden account case count or just these cases where reinstatement request was initiated. If 28k+ is the reinstatement request count then we get 80 requests per day and then it is no wonder that they are processed in such a questionable way (a dedicated reinstatement team of 10 to 20 might be needed just to process this volume). If 28632 is the total count of cases, and if we assume that only 6% of hidden accounts are requested to be reinstated (with 3% of positive decisions) then it's only around 5 requests per day. Looks like it's not too much, and I wonder what's the problem is with the support response time then. |

Things did not work out for me. How are you supposed to create a ticket when your admin account itself is blocked. Once an account is blocked, the reinstatement link doesn't work for that account. For a startup, this is challenging and a risk. I understood that risk and asked the startup founder to use bit bucket. GitHub while being good wouldn't make sense if the customer service is not responsive and getting support becomes a frictionless user experience |

Its a risk you always need to consider (with all cloud offerings). They too might at one point become unavailable. Thats why it is always good to have alternatives available once that happens. Mirroring might help you out there. Rgrds, |

The availability of the service is just one side of the problem. Another side is that a GitHub profile became an expected part of the portfolio for the programmer. "Include a link to your GitHub profile" is a usual request in job offers (we won't discuss if this is really helpful or just a filler in a job description). With all respect to alternative services mentioned above, I don't remember seeing them mentioned in a similar way. So GitHub is a service taken for granted at global scale, de-facto monopoly (quite deserved I suppose), but it can nullify a part of your public reputation without any discussion. In my case my credentials were stolen and used to create a repo-based ad for malware. So I'm a victim of a crime, but I'm persecuted for that, without a trial, and at a global scale. I'm lucky in that I'm only shadowbanned, but still I can't share a link to my profile anymore. [Here was some emotional rant but I've removed it after I was renstated] |

Chances are low they do something. I was provoked into what they call "bulling", because they don't watch for environment sanity at all (zero attention to repo vandalizing, discussion derailing etc.), got "flagged", filed an appeal (raised a ticket). A few months have passed since, I believe, March? And not a single F was given. All dead like after the nuclear war like there's no support at all. IDK, maybe the tickets are "invisible", too. But then... Well, you are totally out of luck with this GH crap once you got flagged, be it deserved or on accident. It's easier to create a new account. I was forced to do exactly this to be able to file reports for some projects. But in general I will never ever entrust my code to these rascals and will advise everyone to do exactly this and to stay away from it. |
