Command palette shortcut customizations are useless

I have noticed that github no longer "overrides" CMD+K in the browser. This renders the command palette unusable for some people.
List of available alternatives:

• CMD + ALT + K: used by my window manager
• CMD + SHIFT + K: used by my window manager
• CMD + P: Is print
• CMD + SHIFT + P: Private browsing in Firefox

Since I cannot override Firefox shortcuts easily I now have to stop using the command palette.

Why can't I just set a custom key?
