Recently I've noticed this message on all organization's repo's Contribution page:
"Contributions to main, line counts have been omitted because commit count exceeds 10,000."

I'm no longer able to sort by Lines Added / Removed, and all I can see is the Commits count of each contributor.

Is this some new GitHub policy?

Just noticed the same message as well. Given our repo has over 18,000 commits, and I've checked these stats regularly and recently, it appears this was a recent intentional removal of the feature. Any more context Github can provide here?

Edit: I was able to find the changelog from November 29th announcing the removal. Very disappointing to have useful features removed with no recourse.

This changelog should at the very least be labeled deprecation like the rest of them are.

@dzunk I have a feeling it's another money saving feature removal for Github. It seems that ever since MS bought the place they're actively making the site less useful to save costs.

This should work (though I believe Github was using a different formula; not sure how they were calculating it):

git log --author=<emailregex> --pretty=tformat: --numstat | awk '{ adds += $1; subs += $2; loc += $1 - $2 } END { printf "added lines: %s, removed lines: %s, total lines: %s, added:deleted ratio:%s\n", adds, subs, loc, adds/subs }' -

Credit goes to some StackOverflow post somewhere a while ago.

I definitely miss this Github feature, though :(

Wow, what a sucky change. I'm definitely all for making it configurable if some people would like to hide it. But to just remove it entirely seems extremely heavy handed. In an org with many repositories this was an extremely reliably way to identify the party most familiar with the code as opposed to members who have ridiculous numbers of commits for small documentation/wording adjustments but aren't actually making any architectural changes to the system.

It is not "dormant", it's being ignored by Github staff.

What strike me the most is that there is no explanation or what so ever. I mean if you want to monetize it in the future just say it openly. At least we will understand how Github is changed after MS handover

Couldn't agree more. Comms was piss-poor on this one.
Analysis of lines added / removed is an infinitely more useful metric of familiarity than commits, it would be great to see it returned in some form or other.

It seems the sort of teams that are going to find this feature useful have codebases over 10k commits... And commit counds doesn't really give you an idea of how much was done, just who commits more often. 10 x 1 line change is not 10 x more contribution than 1 x 100 line change 😕 .
