Hello, apologies in advance if something here could have been solved more easily but I hope someone can take a look at this.

I'm not sure if this is related to Berlin phasing out FIS-Broker (it seems to be broken already, judging from the website), but most of the imagery for Berlin is no longer working on a high zoom level:

image

In some locations, it can still load tiles at zoom level 17, but for most, it doesn't go beyond 16.

This is what it looks like when I manually use the WMS service for the same imagery:

image

It looks like the new ones are hosted on gdi.berlin.de.

Working URL template:
https://gdi.berlin.de/services/wms/truedop_2024?SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.3.0&REQUEST=GetMap&LAYERS=truedop_2024&STYLES=&CRS={proj}&FORMAT=image/png&BBOX={bbox}&WIDTH={width}&HEIGHT={height}

The same domain also hosts the imagery from 2023 (truedop_2023) and 2022 (truedop_2022).

I went through all Berlin services included in iD:

blurry at high zoom level:

  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2014)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2015)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2016)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2017)
  • Berlin/Geoportal TrueDOP20RGB (2020)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20CIR (2020 infrared)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2021)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2022)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2023)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGBI (2024)

working at high zoom level:

  • Berlin/Geoportal ALKIS
  • Berlin/Geoportal Baumbestand, Alkis s/w
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2018)
  • Berlin/Geoportal DOP20RGB (2019)
  • Berlin/Geoportal Straßenbefahrung 2014, Alkis

Is there a reason why the tile server has been used in the past? Is it possible to replace these with the WMS service?

That's strange, these layers seem to be working for me up to z20

Can you confirm that this is still an issue on your end?

Thanks for taking a look at this.

That is so weird. It is working now. I even waited a few days until I opened the issue. I had also tried different browsers, devices, and networks before I did, so it seems to be a total coincidence that the issue is gone today. The FIS-Broker is also back up and running; the website was completely broken the past few days. There seems to be a connection there.

Also, their scheduled maintenance is on Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., so it couldn't have been that.

Still, FIS-Broker at fbinter.stadt-berlin.de is set to be shut down in mid-2025 in favor of the new Geoportal at gdi.berlin.de, so I wonder whether this issue will come up again then:

(from berlin.de)

So I don't know if it would make sense to migrate to the new WMS URLs, just to be sure.

The issue is back right now, broken from zoom level 16.

This tile should work but doesn't.

From the looks of it, ELI is referencing a mirror from codefor.de as the tiles load significantly faster than the WMS server from the city (#515). Maybe someone can reach out to them to switch the source on their end to the new WMS service?

I have access to the codefor mirror and will have a look at this this week.
