Hopefully this resembles what you were looking for @eskimor.

I leaned pretty heavily on LatestCoreSchedule, so with that removed and with your optimizations I don't think it makes sense to keep my assign_core implementation.

Many of the tests I wrote should still be valuable to keep.

Good checks! I will definitely take those over. Broker chain is trusted, but in case it messes things up, would be good to have a clean error instead of weird behaviour. 👍
