Does anyone know why "Unexpected epoch change" was chosen when there is no block production for an epoch in Babe instead of "skipping" or "jumping over" epochs that have no blocks? Our testnet (based on consensus derived from Babe) has died because of this, I know ChainX network also died because of this due to aggressive configuration they had. So I'm wondering what is the root cause of having that check and behavior in the first place? cc @andresilva |

According to Robert Habermeier there is no big reason other than the fact that it wasn't implemented. Babe doesn't expect this to ever happen, so no one bothered. If someone were to implement it they need to also consider what to do with randomness when jumping over epochs. |
