Take reference when ownership is not needed #373
Conversation
Instead of taking ownership of the `info` vector, `get_patterns` now takes a reference to a slice of tuples. This change makes the function more flexible and efficient, as it no longer requires the caller to transfer ownership of the data.

: Consider pre-allocating the result vector. The early return with an empty Vec when
db_name
is not found could be optimized. Consider pre-allocating the result vector with the expected capacity.- let mut ret = Vec::new(); + let mut ret = Vec::with_capacity(info.len());

: Consider implementing the TODO optimization. The TODO comment highlights a valid performance concern about separating Tidb header and patterns. This separation would allow for more efficient updates by avoiding the need to load and process patterns when only version comparison is needed.
Consider:
- Splitting the Tidb struct into TidbHeader and TidbPatterns
- Storing them in separate column families
- Implementing a two-phase load where patterns are only loaded when version differs
Would you like me to help create a GitHub issue to track this optimization task?

: LGTM! Good optimization using references.
The change from Vec<(String, String)>
to &[(&'a str, &str)]
is a good optimization that:
- Avoids unnecessary ownership transfer of the input vector
- Prevents String allocations by using string slices
- Correctly uses lifetime parameters to tie input references to output

: LGTM! Well-documented change.
The changelog entry clearly describes the modification to Table::get_patterns
and its benefits. The format follows the Keep a Changelog standard.
