Feature Request: Add ability to execute scripts and return their output

Hi there!

I was working on a way to monitor IPSec connections through SNMP when I hit a brick wall - SNMP-exporter doesn't seem to support running scripts.

More specifically, I was working with a MikroTik router and even after generating a new snmp.yml using the generator and the appropriate OIDs (1.3.6.1.4.1.14988.1.1.18/1.3.6.1.4.1.14988.1.1.18.1.1.2), the metrics don't appear (mtxrScriptRunOutput according to the generator/Mikrotik.mib file).

If I've missed something, please point me in the right direction.

No, the exporter does not run scripts. This is out of scope for what the exporter does. The exporter only supports collecting metrics/data via SNMP.

Missing metric output is a completely different problem.

Just to clarify, I don't want to run a script directly with SNMP-exporter, but use an OID to trigger the execution on theMikroTik router. I was looking at this script/repo to monitor IPSec connections and collect the metrics. Is that also not possible?
