Restore Filament Change prior to print #2905
Comments
Do you use it on a MK3 with or without a MMU2 unit?
You can just enter M600 at the end of your custom start G-code in your
printer profile to achieve the same effect.

… Version
PrusaSlicer-2.1.0-beta3
Operating system type + version
Win10
3D printer brand / version + firmware version (if known)
Mk3 firmware 3.7
Behavior
When using layer change on first layer, it will print purge line (front
left of bed) and then lift for a filament change. This ability was disabled
in PrusaSlicer-2.1.0-beta3 per the changelog: "Following color change
issues were fixed:
Adding color change at the last layer did not work reliably.
Adding color change before the first layer has no effect, therefore it is
now disabled."
Please RE-enable this last feature. Reason is because if you were printing
something ending in one color and need to do a filament change, you are
able to create a pre-print filament change (current capability) rather than
doing a filament change prior to the print. It allows for those of us doing
many prints of the same type in serial to use the sliced files to
facilitate the filament change rather than having to do it manually between
prints.
Project File (.3MF) where problem occurs
Any sliced files before 2.1.0 beta 3 vs. after beta3 when the feature was
disabled.

Hi Vojtěch-
I have a Mk3 (not Mk3S) and no MMU2.
I know I can end up adding manually, but it was nice to have in the slicer
settings, as I often am adding color change/filament change. I was just
curious as to the conclusion that the setting "had no effect so it was
disabled" was actually false - it did do something (it put a M600 prior to
print), and it worked as indicated, so I wasn't sure why this was disabled.
I may be in the minority and if so, I can always put an M600 in manually,
as you suggested, as well as just stopping the print to insert a filament
change via the mk3 console on the printer directly.
It was just nice that it worked and it was inaccurate to say it didn't do
anything, which was why it was disabled. It needs to work for the entire
user-base, so I will accept the result, however.
Just curious on another aspect that I couldn't find on the change list: is
there an option for the print preview in the filament changes to be aligned
with the different filament colors and types? For example, could I get the
layer to display the colors I wanted rather than the defaults? (Perhaps
they could be based on the color of filament selected?) The other one I
wasn't sure of more from a material perspective would be if you could
change filament types via filament change: IE start with PLA, but add a
PETG section or go from HTPLA to PLA (as the temp settings can vary. Do you
know if that is feasible? If it is, I'm happy to put in a feature request.
Thanks for all you do to make Prusa Slicer awesome. :)

@bubnikv did not suggest you add it manually. He suggested you add it in your Printer Settings->Custom Start G-Code, so it is automatically added before the print starts. This way you don't have to add it yourself by the slider (which would IMHO classify as manual as well). |
I believe it was answered. We also had quite frequent reports of people who added color change accidentally to the first layer. Closing. |
