Walkthrough

The pull request introduces a new asynchronous mechanism in the executor. A property method info is added in the DependencyExecutor class that enqueues an information retrieval task and returns its result via a Future from a task queue. The task execution function (_execute_tasks_with_dependencies) is updated to handle this new "info" task type. Additionally, new tests are added under TestInfo to validate the executor’s info output under different dependency configurations, using the MpiExecSpawner import as part of the tests.

Changes

File(s) Change Summary
executorlib/interactive/dependency.py Added a new @property info in DependencyExecutor that enqueues an "info" task using a Future and updates _execute_tasks_with_dependencies to handle this task.
tests/test_dependencies_executor.py Introduced a new test class TestInfo with test methods test_info_disable_dependencies_true and test_info_disable_dependencies_false, and added an import for MpiExecSpawner.

Poem

🐰 Hoppin' through the code today,
Found some tasks queued in a playful way.
Info now flows with a gentle beat,
Tests ensure that change is neat.
A bunny cheer for a cleaner trail,
With every line, our program prevails!
🐇 Happy coding without fail!

    • Open a follow-up GitHub issue for this discussion.
  • Files and specific lines of code (under the "Files changed" tab): Tag @coderabbitai in a new review comment at the desired location with your query. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate unit testing code for this file.
    • @coderabbitai modularize this function.
  • PR comments: Tag @coderabbitai in a new PR comment to ask questions about the PR branch. For the best results, please provide a very specific query, as very limited context is provided in this mode. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai gather interesting stats about this repository and render them as a table. Additionally, render a pie chart showing the language distribution in the codebase.
    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and generate unit testing code.
    • @coderabbitai read the files in the src/scheduler package and generate a class diagram using mermaid and a README in the markdown format.
    • @coderabbitai help me debug CodeRabbit configuration file.

Note: Be mindful of the bot's finite context window. It's strongly recommended to break down tasks such as reading entire modules into smaller chunks. For a focused discussion, use review comments to chat about specific files and their changes, instead of using the PR comments.

🛠️ Refactor suggestion

Fix incorrect comment and add error handling.

The comment is incorrect (says "shutdown the executor" but handles internal tasks). Also, add error handling for accessing executor.info.

- if ( # shutdown the executor
+ if ( # handle internal tasks
task_dict is not None and "internal" in task_dict and task_dict["internal"]
         ):
             if task_dict["task"] == "info":

+ try:

+ except Exception as e:
+ task_dict["future"].set_exception(e)

🛠️ Refactor suggestion

Add error handling for potential deadlock scenarios.

The info property blocks on f.result() which could lead to deadlock if the executor is not running. Consider adding error handling and timeout.
