There were a couple of problems with this. First there was a problem accessing to a dictionary that was masking a second error. The second error was happening when trying to execute the scripts on the cluster rather than on the head node, they're trying to connect to the ipython cluster, but that can't be connected from the cluster workers. Moving this to a different script fixes the issue.
There was then a couple of issues with the submission scripts, but those are system specific and I have notes about them.
