After finding out about some serious bugs in the 1.2.0 release, I knew I would have to come back and fix them in a small patch update. Then I started playtesting again and kept on finding little things to improve, eventually pouring in enough work to promote this release to the "SUPERPATCH" rank. This is not a long-term comeback on my behalf, I'm still very much intending to put an end to this project.

New Stuff

  • Revamped Der Scootomik
    • new "bouncing" frag bullets
    • stat changes
    • "FIZZLED!" now causes the cooldown to be cut in half. This reduces the waiting time, if you were hoping to launch a successful charge.
    • new frag sprite, bullet and frag particles
    • in Chip Tuning mode, each destroyed enemy projectile grants +75 points
  • Revamped Evilflame
    • slightly reduced charging time and cooldown, because I too often found that simply shooting at an enemy was more effective than charging
    • Dual Clone can now be "cancelled" by spending a Power Point, which causes 6 rapid charges to be shot out at enemies, and the total sum of HP is preserved. Furthermore, activating Dual Clone grants +50HP (+25 for each ship). This gives more incentive to use the ultimate, and aims to counter the detrimental effects of Dual Clone (hard to dodge enemy attacks)
    • collecting red presents in Dual Clone mode now grants the same amount of HP as without Dual Clone mode (used to be 2 times less)
  • Buffed Bobileusz
    • max HP increased from 580 to 650
    • Prismatic Glacier duration increased from 15 seconds to 20 seconds
    • projectile damage increased from 4.5 to 5.5. This is a major buff, but it felt reasonable during my playtesting.
  • new sound effect for picking up Power Points, because it was too easy to overlook
  • all scrollable panes (changelog, statboard, lore) now have "dragging" support with the mouse. This is nice if you don't have a scroll wheel.
  • more stats are displayed during playthroughs (no. killed enemies, points left before another present), even more are displayed when the game is paused (elapsed in-game time, fps counter). Same additions appear on the "Game Over!" screen
  • charge now has a keybinding, and left-handed mode has been revamped. With these changes, it is possible to play the game with just one hand on the keyboard (mouse is still recommended though).
  • nerfed some Christmas Realm enemies:
    • Gingerbread Men blue bolts now dissipate more quickly, making them less likely to completely pollute the screen
    • Snowmen have slightly worse aim now, and the projectile snowballs move a tiny bit slower
    • Rocket Elf has slightly reduced hitbox size, to avoid players accidentally bumping into it

Bug Fixes

  • fix very glitchy Power Point count behavior, enemies also can no longer drop 2 Power Points
  • various save slot fixes (backwards compatibility has been preserved until proven otherwise)
  • fixed major framerate issues caused by vsync on some monitors (vsync has been disabled)
  • fixed a nasty Bobileusz memory leak that accumulated over time, causing slowdown
  • fixed Bobileusz's bottle minion disappearing after a restart
  • other minor fixes
