it would be nice to have a vscode preferences to turn on automatic open/start of the default tutorial when starting vscode.

If a Didact window was open when the IDE shuts down, at least on the VS Code desktop, it re-opens again when the IDE is restarted.

OK thanks for the explanation. So can't we just have the Didact Window being opened by default if it is activated?
It is not in the context of a plug-in but, in the context of Eclipse Che. Preferences would be pre-set in devfiles for newly created workspaces. Does it make sense to do this in the vscode-didact extension?

Hmmm. I don't know. Maybe? I personally find the in-your-face kind of always on Welcome screens to be annoying. If the Che workspace persists (i.e. isn't ephemeral) does it automatically come up if it was up when the workspace was shut down?

Yep, I think it all depends on the use case: in a tutorial/workshop context, you always want the instructions being open because a workspace created for that would be dedicated.
In some other cases, you would like this to be started just the first time.

Adding new setting -- defaults to unchecked. If checked, uses the default url and opens the window on extension activation (and at startup).
