What is Refined Storage 2?

Refined Storage 2 is the next major version, an evolution, of Refined Storage (1) for Minecraft 1.21.1.

What is the difference between Refined Storage 2 and Refined Storage 1?

In terms of features the mod will largely stay the same. There will be some changes and new features here and there. When Refined Storage 2 is completed, we will share a list of the most important changes.

Besides changes to the existing feature set, Refined Storage 2 will have support for the Fabric mod loader (along the NeoForge mod loader).

Will Refined Storage 2 replace Refined Storage 1?

Yes. As soon as Refined Storage 2 has feature parity with Refined Storage 1, Refined Storage 2 will replace Refined Storage 1.

This will only happen between Minecraft versions, that way we can more easily break compatibility.

Why a new major version of Refined Storage?

Where can I download Refined Storage 2?

See: https://github.com/refinedmods/refinedstorage2/wiki/Getting-started#downloading-the-mod

You need a single JAR file. Use the refinedstorage-fabric-{version}.jar or refinedstorage-neoforge-{version}.jar JAR file, depending on your modloader of choice.

How do I install Refined Storage 2?

See: https://github.com/refinedmods/refinedstorage2/wiki/Getting-started#installing-the-mod

Does Refined Storage 2 have any dependencies?

Where do I report issues with Refined Storage 2?

Here, on this GitHub repository: https://github.com/refinedmods/refinedstorage2/issues

Why are there features missing?

Because Refined Storage 2 is still unfinished, in development.

Where can we find a roadmap? How can we track progress?

There are multiple ways to check progress:

The mod is developed in milestones, and every milestone gets a few releases.

  • Milestone 1 has been completed and brought all the core features, basic functionality.
  • Milestone 2 has been completed and brought features related to input/output, interacting with the world.
  • Milestone 3 has been completed and brought more networking and wireless access tools.
  • Milestone 4 is in progress and will bring autocrafting.

What Minecraft version do these milestone releases support?

See Development history

When is Refined Storage 2 "done"? Can you give an ETA?

There is no ETA. Refined Storage 2 will be done as soon as it reaches feature parity with Refined Storage 1.

I have an idea for a new feature, for which Refined Storage version is it relevant?

Report those on the Refined Storage 1 repository (not this one). From there, multiple things can happen:

  • Your idea is denied
  • Your idea is accepted, and will be added into Refined Storage 2
  • Your idea is accepted, and will be added into both Refined Storage 1 and Refined Storage 2

For which mod loaders does Refined Storage 2 have support?

NeoForge and Fabric.

Why also support Fabric?

Refined Storage 2 has Fabric support because I'm excited to try out Fabric and its ecosystem, and because it gives players an incentive to try out the new version, since NeoForge has a complete working edition already.

The reason for Refined Storage 2 isn't "porting to Fabric", although it's a nice side effect. I'm making Refined Storage 2 in function of code quality and future-proofing, not in function of a modloader. It is also a good excercise to make the code modloader independent.

Is there a Fabric release for Refined Storage 1? Will Refined Storage 1 gain Fabric support?

No. One of the goals for Refined Storage 2 is to gain support for the Fabric mod loader. We are working on it, but not for Refined Storage 1.

Can you backport/release/maintain Refined Storage 2 for older Minecraft versions?

No, since Refined Storage 2 is still in active development, it does not make sense to spend time backporting to older Minecraft versions.

All time is going into getting Refined Storage 2 done.

Refined Storage 2 only supports the latest Minecraft version, and will update as soon as a new Minecraft version comes out.

Will "RS2" be like "AE2"?

No, and I'm just now realizing that the name "RS2" has a connotation with "AE2". This is unintended, it's simply the next major version number for Refined Storage.

When will Refined Storage 2 be released on CurseForge or Modrinth?

Refined Storage 2 will get an official release on CurseForge and Modrinth if it reaches feature parity with Refined Storage 1.
