Would it be possible to add a --barcodecutR1 N and --barcodecutR2 N option to skewer to do the following:

  • Cut N bases from beginning of R1 (or R2 for --barcodecutR2)
  • Paste those bases at the end of each read id, both for R1 and R2, with a ':' prefix.

This is while producing only 2 output files, instead of many output files with the different barcodes.

If it is confusing to call this option --barcodecutR1, maybe it could be called --tagcutR1?
