I was trying to debug this rviz points resize issue that was first reported on ROS noetic, but has since now affected every ROS release since.
I was trying to dig in and figure out what was going on....havent fixed it yet but I have found a few things that could be improved going forward.
I can make another PR for the main
ros2branch as well with these same changes if wanted.
