I thought “cannot” is a shortened form of “can not”.
Is it a spell miss?

I checked again and I think you're right that it's not a spell miss strictly. It's just that "cannot" is much more common than "can not". I think in the past "can not" was only accepted when "not" was part of a different structure (like in "Now I can not only smell the pie, but I can also see it.", where it cannot be replaced with "can't"), but these days both forms are accepted I believe.
