Type ascription was partially implemented in rust-lang/rust#30184 and, the AST changes are available as of #847.

This is behind the type_ascription lang feature.

Ameliorate pushed a commit to Ameliorate/buildengine5 that referenced this issue Mar 29, 2016

Aparently rustfmt doesn't support type ascription yet. It's tracked in rust-lang/rustfmt#848
