User story
add the ability to group arbitrary tubes together in a tube rack [Heron]. We need to add support to quanthub for tapestation files. These quants are tube based. Users would like to use Limber to create normalisation templates.

Who are the primary contacts for this story
Iraad / Steve / James

Acceptance criteria
To be considered successful the solution must allow:

  • the ability to group arbitrary tubes together in a tube rack
  • ...

Dependencies
This story is blocked by the following dependencies:

  • #<issue_no.>
  • sanger/#<issue_no.>

References
This story has a non-blocking relationship with:

  • #<issue_no.>
  • sanger/#<issue_no.>

Additional context
Users want to generate CSV containing the concentration of the source tubes. (I suggested that we could just generate the robot driver files, rather then them needing to copy-paste the information into an intermediate spreadsheet). However, both approaches require a means of grouping together multiple tubes for processing at the same time.

While this doesn’t need to be a tube rack, we:

  • Already have the back-end support for this
  • Need to add tube racks shortly for other purposes

A meeting about Tapestation for Stef's work led to a conversation about this work for Naomi as well. See sanger/quanthub#102 (comment)

Questions for Iraad:

  • What are the dimensions of the rack that we are transferring into?
  • Are the dimensions fixed?
  • Do you want us to generate a barcode or do you want to use the barcode already supplied?

Tubes are created in Limber towards the end of the heron pipeline.
Have tube rack as child of the LTHR-384 Pool XP tube
Don't create an asset link with tube racks.

UI:

  • blank page in Limber for creating tube racks
  • you can also get there from the tube itself
  • page which allows them to group tubes in a rack
  • scan the barcodes of the tubes
  • Any restrictions? Needs to be tube of particular purpose. Use a shared tube rack purpose.

This is no longer required for this story. I may be worth merging in the completed work (minus the links on the front page) to make it available for similar requirements in other stories in the backlog.
