Dependency versions of external modules cannot be resolved

Description

• What went wrong?
  versions of the dependencies of linked (and packaged) dependencies inside a monorepo cannot be resolved. The console shows an "WARNING: Could not determine version of module XXX" message.

• What did you expect should have happened?
  The version should be resolved and inserted into the package.json of the serverless bundle.

• What stacktrace or error message from your provider did you see?
  "WARNING: Could not determine version of module XXX"

Anything we can do to help move either #506 or #507 along? It looks like both solutions have stalled and need some primary maintainer feedback.
