We have new contributors joining the project.
As such we need to make it easier for them to get started, this includes:

  • docs improvements
  • allow for running integration tests on a macbook (if possible)
  • better tools for running on cloud instances
  • and any other papercut we've just been ignoring but would be confusing for a new contributor.

looks like its impossible to get the clustered tests running on mac with docker desktop: https://docs.docker.com/desktop/networking/#per-container-ip-addressing-is-not-possible
This leaves running shotover tests in a VM or on a cloud instance.
