Feature request: MacOS: Signal Desktop: In user chat window, on top of the window there is always full information on user we chat with: name, phone numer. This information should be hidden or at least there should be an option to hide it. I don't need to be reminded each time I write whose number it is, or I do not need other ppl peaking through my elbow who I chat with. Thx.

Actual Result: chat user personal information visible on top

Expected Result: Option to hide this information

I would like to contribute.
My Proposal
Option1
A new preference option can be added under "General" heading with multiple options similar to what are shown for notifications.
Chat window header shows:

  • Name and phone number
  • Name only (default)
  • No name or phone number
    Profile picture will always be shown.

Option2
A new preference option can be added under "General" to only hide phone number in chat window

  • Show phone number in chat window

Let me know which approach is more suitable.

PS: This is my first PR on Signal, just started exploring the codebase.

Currently, name and number of the contact are shown on chat header by default
some of the users have raised a concern about it as it is too revealing and gives away privacy

Add a setting to choose what level of details are shown on the chat header
Following options are provided
- Name and number
- Name only
- No name and number

By default name only option is chose.

Users can change the settings under general header.
