Falcon vs Passenger

This is a synthetic benchmark comparing passenger with falcon.

Usage

This benchmark will only work on Arch Linux at the current time.

First, generate the systems:

rake falcon:base falcon:setup passenger:base passenger:setup

Once the systems have been generated, you can boot them (you may want to run them in separate terminals):

rake falcon:run
rake passenger:run

To run benchmarks:

rake benchmark:small benchmark:large benchmark:sleep

Latency Calculations

By default wrk computes latency as the time from sending the first byte, to the time the response is received completely. This does not take into account if the server took time to accept the connection, which is typical if a server is highly contended, nor does it take into account connections where request are sent but responses are never received.

In order to take these important factors into account, please use this fork of wrk. If you compiled wrk in $HOME/wrk

export WRK=$HOME/wrk/wrk
rake benchmark:all
