The sonic kernel take a minimum approach, it only takes kernel patch that has to be build within the kernel tree. All the hardware platform share a same kernel. |

this is already in https://github.com/Azure/sonic-linux-kernel/blob/master/patch/config-dell-s6000.patch, please check
for driver-patches-for-accton-as7512-fan-psu-cpld-led-sfp.patch, can we build out of kernel tree like the dell s6000 platform modules? We can setup repo for you to contribute. |

Can you explain the nature of this patch, is it a driver bug we are fixing (upstreamed) or is it a workaround for the hardware platform.
* build 4.9.0-3 debian kernel * Mellanox system drivers backport to kernel 4.9 This series of patches introduces support for Mellanox systems. Most of the patches is a backporting from the kernels 4.10 4.14 for Mellanox system drivers that have been applied upstream and a few patches contain current Mellanox upstream work patches which are in review process for acceptances for kernels 4.16 4.17. This series introduces Mellanox i2c controller, mux, platform, hotplug, led, asic drivers, TI voltage controller driver and the extension of Mellanox kernel config. In series file all the patches are listed and all old patches, relevant for old 3.16 kernel are commented out. We have support for Broadcom 54616 backported from Linux Kernel upstream in commit 3639697 ("[igb]: support broadcom 54616 phy for Intel igb driver (sonic-net#3)"). However that support doesn't account for the case when no EEPROM present and we need to initialize PHY manually. Signed-off-by: Sergey Popovich <sergey.popovich@ordnance.co>

Script build.sh was extended in order to allow specifying path with vendor patches. This will help to eliminate issues like #2, when different vendors try to patch the same config file.
This change does not impact existing vendors
