Order collection by taxonomy field?

Hi There

We have a list of team members we are trying to filter and sort. Filtering all works fine but we are trying to sort the members by a field in the taxonomy. The tag is the following

    collection:people 
    as="people"
    sort="last_name" 
    paginate="true" limit="12" 
    taxonomy:department="{get:department}" 
    taxonomy:grouping="{get:role}"
    taxonomy:location="{get:location}" 
}}

Which works fine, but what we want to do is

{{ 
    collection:people 
    as="people" 
    sort="grouping.order" 
    paginate="true" limit="12" 
    taxonomy:department="{get:department}" 
    taxonomy:grouping="{get:role}"
    taxonomy:location="{get:location}" 
}}

This throws an error from the stache

file_put_contents(project_path/storage/framework/cache/data/stache/indexes/entries/people/grouping/order): failed to open stream: No such file or directory

Is there a way to get this to work in the regular statamic way or will we need something a bit customised?

There are about 180+ team members so I can't really drop the pagination

In the end I added an event listener to the EntrySaving event which then added the order of the taxonomy to the persons entry, and then filtered based on that field
