This Mac OSX bash shell script is designed to extract text messages from the most recent iPhone backup. The text messages are exported in plain text to a CSV (comma separated values) spreadsheet. This spreadsheet can be opened in Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, and most other spreadsheet software available.
- Connect your iPhone
- Make an unencrypted backup of your iPhone to your computer using iTunes
- Download the zip file and extract the script
- Run the script by double-clicking getiphonesms
- A file called text_messages.csv should be created on your desktop
