Thanks Francesco! Fyi, I've merged this into 2.7 (the oldest version this bug existed in). I'll take care of bringing it into the newer versions.

This PR was submitted for the master branch but it was merged into the 2.7 branch instead (closes #6619).

@zanardigit no worries, with our merge tool, it's just as simple as passing --switch 2.7 :)

@wouterj you can even shorten it as -s 2.7 😄
