Inspired by this. I'm already able to run it.

I would probably have to adjust the "non-pipewire" guides a little bit and rename them.

Progress:

  • Arch Linux done
  • Steam Deck - see this comment
  • Debian
  • Fedora
  • NixOS - I won't do it. If someone else wants to, go ahaed.
  • rewrite or edit src
  • rephrase help issue template
    • merge first
  • write a guide on choosing guides
    • brief overview of the differences
    • "can I have all ways at once?"
    • simplest setup (alsa)
    • simplest good sounding setup (native jack + preload)

I will edit the guides individually and then see if I can create a more efficient system to build the guides. I hope I can.

EDIT: Done

  • test under which circumstances I don't need to start jack to have audio when using native jack (known working: Debian with start script
  • decide if this is something i want to advise people to do - until I tested this thoroughly, I won't.
  • have a look at this: https://wiki.debian.org/PipeWire#JACK

Can someone with a Steam Deck and a working setup test something? If what I think works just like that, writing a Steam Deck guide for the new setup should be easy.

  1. Install: jack2 lib32-jack qjackctl
  2. reboot, just to make sure.
  3. set up qjackctl (take instructions from this section)
  4. Start jack
  5. start game

All I need to know is if that works or if you encounter any issues.

I need a note that you can't change the volume of an output device if native jack is running, except with pulseaudio-jack. On pipewire, I don't know of a way to do it.

EDIT: Done - ?
