Guardian Node on Google Cloud - why won't it sync?

Hi - I have a node deployed on Google Cloud, but when I go to check if it is synced with the network and enter the command

thetacli query status

I get the following:

Failed to get blockchain status: Post http://localhost:[xxx]: dial tcp [xxx]: connect: connection refused

Any hints? Thanks in advance!
