[Connect 2.5] Workstreams - Challenges and Task management

We are implementing the ability to manage challenges and tasks associated with work:

1. Where should the budget available come from?
   

2. As I understand here we show the list of workItems (phaseProducts) for the work.

   

3. If the above is true, where do we store potential challenges/tasks to add to the work, shown on this screen:

   

4. When creating a new challenge/task we show the next list. As I understand this is a list of some Project Templates (not Product Templates, like we had for phases). How we obtain such a list?

1. We need to total the amount of project_estimations_items records where type is community (or whatever we have it finally for community price item) and building-block's metadata.deliverable is the type of the workstream.

3. This list would be populated from the challenge API based on keyword entered by the user. Tricky situation is when we don't have any text entered by the user, we have couple of options here:
   a) Show the top 10 challenges which are returned by the challenge API without any filter (or may be if we have filter of user involved in the challenge, just like right now we are showing My Challenges on the Challenges listing page on topcoder.com/challenges).
   b) Show top 10 challenges filtering via the directProjectId of already added challenges to the work card. So, in this case, for the first challenge/task of the work card, it would show empty list or list of challenges as per option a above

4. It is infact productTemplates. So, essentially we have to create new productTemplates which maps to each of our track/subtrack of challenge which we see on direct as of today. That is how our workItems are one to one mapped with phaseProducts.

3. Here I'm not yet understood.

a) By default show the challenges which are listed by My Challenges filter in Connect App. - This is clear. I guess we can do.

b) I didn't get this case. If we already added the project to the work card, there is no need to show it again in the list for adding new challenges.

Let's say that we show a list of My Challenges. When we enter a word here should we filter My Challenges client-side? Or initially, we are showing just a limited number of My Challenges and when we enter a keyword, we should filter the challenges by keyword and show them without limiting the number of them?

I didn't get this case. If we already added the project to the work card, there is no need to show it again in the list for adding new challenges.

We are not adding a project to the work card, we are adding a challenge to a work card. And what I meant is that after first challenge is added to the work card, if user tries to add second challenge/task to the same card, we can assume that most probably that challenge/task would also belong to the same direct project and we can list challenges from that direct project only by default as suggestions.

Yes, we are going to filter from server side. When user types some keyword, we would filter from all challenges. I think we need to have some kind of indication that by default we are showing only My Challenges. OR better, we can show top 10 challenges from the API and give a checkbox somewhere in the UI which says My Challenges only.

5. Is there any way to remove WorkItems? So far I don't see such a feature in UI.

   Do you think there would be the case where we would like to associate not my challenge with some work? I think all the challenges which are run as a part of Projects where I'm a participant are treated as my challenge. For example if some other copilot run a challenge using Connect project where I'm a member, such challenge is listed as my challenge. On the other side, it feels like I would never need to add some challenge to my work, if I'm not a memmber of that project where such challenge belongs to. What do you think?

7. For the "Manage details" link we should open page for editing the challenge in the new challenge editor. So far I see such a link doesn't use a standard challenge id https://challenges.topcoder-dev.com/projects/127/challenges/0ef8064f-41da-4cfb-ae98-07919a26b01e/edit. How do we get this another challenge id to format such a URL?

8. When we add some challenges we also show their total community fee. But the API for searching challenges returns only prizes for submitters without review and copilot fees https://api.topcoder.com/v4/challenges/?filter=status%3DACTIVE&limit=50&offset=0

   Is there any API where we can get challenges together with total community fee?

9. I guess we should not show challenges on the list, for which we already added WorkItems, right?

10. For the functionality of creating new challenges, we are showing some list of Product Templates.
    

    We should be able to somehow filter some Product Template, as we don't show all of them here. Should we create for this purpose a new category "Challenges"? While we could still use "subCategory" to filter these Product Templates as per "Workstream" type if necessary.

11. For the icons in this list we can use the icon field of Product Template. We can put values into icon field like challenge-icon-{subTrack} and after use the same algorithm to format letter as in Community App https://github.com/appirio-tech/connect-app/blob/feature/workstreams-timeline/src/helpers/index.js#L8-L54. This is just FYI to confirm.

12. When we select some challenge and click Add to work card we should create a relative WorkItem which is represented by the next model https://github.com/topcoder-platform/tc-project-service/blob/dev/src/models/phaseProduct.js. Let me confirm how we should fill the fields:

    • name = challenge.name
    • projectId = project id in Connect App
    • directProjectId = challenge.projectId
    • type and templateId should be filled with the productKey and id of respective Product Template. So not only we should be able to create challenges by Product Template, but also have some way to determine which Product Template represents the particular challenge, no matter which way used to create it. I'll discuss this question separately in 13.
    • actualPrice = 0 - default value.
    • estimatedPrice the same question like in 8. So far don't see where we can get the full community fee for any challenge.
    • details = {} - default value.

13. Somehow we should have a mapping between Product Templates and challenges. We would use it in both directions:

    • when we choose a Product Template we should know what type of challenge to create.
    • when we select some challenge to add to work as a WorkItem we should be able to understand what is the corresponding Product Template to fill the phaseProduct.type and phaseProduct.templateId values.

    I don't see a perfect place in Product Template model to store such matching. The only way to store such a mapping in current model I see, is to use some convention for the productKey field. We can define it like this for all Product Templates which represents challenges:
    challenge-{track}-{subTrack}
    Not a perfect way maybe you have any better ideas?

14. Could you please give me a hint about where to find the information on which API to use for new challenge creation?

5. Lets keep the deletion of workstream as admin feature and we can collect all such admin features for immediate next release to the bing bang release.

6. Do you think there would be the case where we would like to associate not my challenge with some work?

Ideally, it should not. But lets keep it open for all challenges for now.

7. Lets open the direct challenge for now. We would do the integration with the new tool after release.

8. Hmm. I am not sure about it. Can you please the check, by network tool, which API direct is calling to get these details?

10. Although, we could show all the non hidden product templates for this page as we going to hide all others except the needed ones, it is really nice idea to have a new category called Challenges and then that category will hold all the new challenge/task type products. We might need to come up with Task as category as well, if there are cases where certain product templates under Challenges category does not support tasks creation.

While we could still use "subCategory" to filter these Product Templates as per "Workstream" type if necessary.

Yes, that sounds good. However, after typing all this, I realized that we may use existing Design/Dev/Deployment/DataScience etc as category and then create new sub category Challenges instead. In reality it does not matter for us because we don't really have sub category, it is only how we associate templates with category and secondary category, so we can do any of the way as we required.

12. Agreed. I guess, we can keep estimatedPrice and actualPrice same and once we are able to find a way to find total cost of challenge, we can store that here. However, I think both of these fields are not much important as of now and they are mostly carried forward from my original model when we introduced the products in projects. I think with new model, pricing is determined by our new model of price estimations.

13. Your workaround seems workable to me. However, do you think if simply use the subTrack as productKey, it would solve our problem?

   Did you mean WorkItems, not WorkStreams right? As my questions was about deleting WorkItems, other words about deleting challenges from the work.

    I would prefer to have some kind of prefix to reduce the chance of any kind of collisions. Though I would simplify it to challenge-{subTrack}.
