As per the datasheet, the months register (08h) stores the current month coded in BCD format with a value range of 1 to 12. January is therefore allocated to value 1 and December is allocated to value 12 (or BCD 10010). When handling year wrapping, the check must be performed on constant 12 (should we be capturing anything greater to remain within the correct range?) and the months should be reset to 1 for January.
