v1.4.1

This updates delays a bit the loading of a Hall of Fame background image.

Before, the mod attempted to load an image as soon as possible to display it instantly when the menu was shown.

However, on lower-end machines or with large mod playsets, this could cause more noticeable UI stuttering when loading mods.

Furthermore, this could also have played a role in the elusive crash that some players experience when opening the game.

This update waits for the main menu to be shown and waits 500ms more before doing anything.

These changes are experimental, if they don't yield good results they might be reverted.

If you used to experience the crash-at-load and still have it after this update, please contact me on Discord or in the Forum thread to report it.

v1.4.0 “The Screenshot Quality Update”

New features and changes:

  • Add maximize button on the upload dialog preview image, allowing you to review the screenshot in full screen before sending.
  • When the option for saving screenshots locally is enabled (it is by default), the mod will no longer use the Vanilla code for this (and hence take the screenshot two times, also).
Instead, Hall of Fame now saves its own file in the game’s Screenshots folder, using the same naming scheme as the Vanilla game.
This will allow you to take 4K screenshots locally no matter your actual game resolution, and benefit from the other improvements below.
If you want to take a Vanilla screenshot, just use the Vanilla button.
  • A warning will be shown in the upload dialog if you took the screenshot using non-High graphics quality settings, encouraging you to switch to High for the screenshotting session.
    Custom settings are ignored.
  • (Nvidia GPUs) Disable Global Illumination (SSGI) when taking a screenshot.
This is because SSGI implementation in C:S 2 causes very grainy images that you are now probably familiar with if you’ve used the mod a lot, so much that it can completely ruin the screenshot.
For now, SSGI is only disabled with Nvidia GPUs, I will be monitoring new screenshots to see if it happens with AMD GPUs as well.
You can disable the SSGI override in the mod’s option menu if you know that it doesn’t cause issues with your GPU.
A small message will be displayed in the upload dialog if the mod disabled SSGI for the screenshot.
  • Disable Nvidia DLSS or the game’s native upsampling, as they don’t make sense when we are already taking a supersampled screenshot.
They only caused blurrier images or artifacts.
  • Make more render cycles (1 → 8) when taking a screenshot, improving texture and geometry precision, especially on far away objects.
  • Screenshots are now sent to the server in the original PNG quality, and no longer in 75% quality JPEG, improving the quality at the source.
They are still converted and served as JPG for performance reasons, but the resulting image quality will be significantly improved.
  • Updates for Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Chinese Simplified.

New features:

  • LIKES! You can now like images you see in the main menu and boost this content.
This is also a “favorites” feature, in the future you will be able to see your liked images in a dedicated UI.
  • New “Trending” algorithm weight in mod options.
Trending shows images that have a higher amount of likes per day.
Now that Trending is a thing, Supporter and Random algorithms have been scaled back to a default weight of 2 (from 5).
  • Back button to see previous images (up to 20).
  • Report image button is now only shown when you hover the city name, freeing up space in the UI.
  • Changing your Creator Name in the mod options is now applied immediately.
If there are problems with your login credentials, this will also be shown in the mod options dynamically.
  • Hiding the main menu UI now also hides the game’s FPS overlay.
  • Italian and Portuguese localization have been added, updates for other languages.

Bug fixes:

  • Screenshots with less than 1K population will no longer be rounded down to 0, instead the exact number will be shown.
  • XBox Game Pass users won’t need to manually remove their # in front of their username.

Changes:

  • Commas are now allowed in City Name.
Do not rename your city if you already removed the comma to be able to upload, or the system will not be able associate old and new screenshots to the same city, a future feature.
  • Allow 1-character creator or city name. This is to better support languages like Chinese.

Bugfixes:

  • It was still possible to interact with the main menu UI even if it was invisible.
  • Non-ASCII characters in Creator Name do not result in an error anymore.
  • Chinese (simplified and traditional) date localization is fixed.
  • Empty creator names will no longer show empty "by " in the main menu.

v1.0.4 Pre-release
Pre-release
  • Fixed a rare bug that could prevent Hall of Fame's UI to load.
  • Align with new Creator account management serverside.
  • Now, your Paradox account ID will be used instead of CreatorID.txt, so you don't have to copy your ID between machines. The legacy test file will be deleted the next time you run the mod, you can also do it manually.
If you are not logged in with Paradox, you can still use the mod thanks to a random ID that is also now saved in the main settings file.
  • Localization of dates (used to display when a screenshot was posted) is now done serverside, which allows the mod to support 90+ locales instead of the 12 officially-supported ones, while shaving off a good amount of bytes and load time from the UI mod.
  • Update supporters list with all people that tested the mod (alphabetical order): CloverPie, Danil.V.L, Hendrix, Jojodaisuke, Konsi, Prophedt, TheBusStop, ThemisC2, Tigon Ologdring (visible in mod settings).

v1.0.2 Pre-release
Pre-release
  • Now a screenshot with 0 population and milestone Founding (0) or Megalopolis (20) will instead just show the label "Pristine wilderness" as this is likely just an empty map screenshot, and having two labels with "0" and "Megalopolis" was just bizarre.
  • Fix vertical spacing of screenshot labels in main menu.
  • Remove approximation prefixes before the dates in the date screenshot label (ex. "about 1 month ago" => "1 month ago"). This greatly reduces the chance of wrapping jumps between screenshots, the three main labels now generally alway fit one line.
  • Fix city name and author name color with Light Blue theme.
  • Update feature requests link to the new website.
  • Do not log an error if CreatorID.txt is not found.
