The wheel.yml CI workflow has been failing for some time. The last passing build was on December 21 and the first failing one on December 22.

Most likely, it started failing after #1004 was merged.

This also results in the last available wheels on PyPI to be from December 3rd (2.0.0.dev20221202).

Yep, it's actually on purpose as we're still fixing performance regression issues, and I wouldn't consider the new master branch to be generally preferable to the latest dev wheel. The wheels script will be fixed when all perf issues are resolved -- hopefully in 1-2 weeks :)

Thanks for the explanation!

Another option would be fixing the wheel workflow, but disabling the upload to PyPI step temporarily.
