that is a preview update you got installed: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/february-25-2025-kb5052093-os-build-26100-3323-preview-053856ea-f984-4bdb-866c-5f356f5a451b

In the settings app, untick "Get the latest updates as soon as available" so that preview updates are not automatically installed.

All preview updates are then shown as download and install and are never automatically installed if you have the above unticked.

Preview updates are also not fully tested by Microsoft and thus could have bugs.

You should only be installing preview updates if you are a developer or are OK with running pre-release versions of EP.

Please edit your comment, it has your email info showing. And don't reply via email as it doesn't filter everything out sometimes.

Have you got other solutions?
Witch is the preview version of EP?

Open up task manager and kill explorer.exe and then run task manager again and run explorer.exe.

If that doesn't fix it, try rebooting your computer.

If these do not fix this, then you'll need to wait for a developer to respond.

If you'd rather not be part of testing EP with preview windows updates, I suggest you follow my previous comment's instructions.

Just do it. I will wait for a developer

Dear pyrates999, I finally found the problem and what it is caused by: this morning the system, despite having the "untick" on "get the latest updates as soon as they are available", updated to version 24H2 build 26100.3476 (KB5053598). The problem I reported occurred again, but..... during startup an application that I have been using for 15 years, delayed starting, and..... miracle. The problem is created by a Stardock ObjectDock application that creates a sort of Mac-style Dock. Closing the offending application the problem disappears. Incredible. If I have to set a default application for a file format, I just temporarily close Objectdock. Sorry for the inconvenience. Explorer Patcher is the best for me with Windows 11

Awesome.

As for unticking "Get the latest updates as soon as available" in Settings. Doing that should prompt you to install preview updates. It should never automatically update. You can then safely ignore it.
