I don't think so for acquire/release. . Even cuda std c++ lib doesn't have those. For volatile, yes we can use volatile keyword, but casting to volatile is ugly too, so I think stick to PTX is fine.

You can use libcu++ for this instead of inline assembly if you feel unhappy about inline assembly: https://nvidia.github.io/cccl/libcudacxx/extended_api/synchronization_primitives/atomic.html#example
The advantage is that you have a distinct type (std::atomic instead of T)
