That's a bug and it relates to w3c/csswg-drafts#10039 to some extent. CSS should probably own the specific type of box that text is trying to create. HTML is not suited to maintain such a detailed CSS integration long term. cc @whatwg/css |

Allow top layer elements to be nested within popovers This allows top layer elements, including the dialog element, to be nested inside of an open popover, by not closing the popover when the new top layer element is opened. Without this patch, opening a modal dialog inside of a popover will make the page inert and make the dialog invisible. Fixes whatwg#9998. See also whatwg/fullscreen#237. What is the issue with the HTML Standard?

This seems to suggest that
<button>elements in button layout are not affected bydisplay: none?Firefox does not render buttons with a computed
displayvalue ofnone(as I would expect).Is this simply omitted here because it "seems obvious enough"?
