winston doesn't support stable nodejs (version < 0.3)

I think the whole "stable" vs. "unstable" thing is a matter of opinion. v0.3.1 is just as stable as 0.2.x. I'm not planning on supporting 0.2.x for a number of reasons, but will upgrade to "stable" 0.4.x when it comes out in the next couple of weeks.

Shouldn't be a very long wait. In the meantime, you can clone it and just change the package.json, and all the references to

   var util = require('util');

to

   var sys = require('sys');

and it should work fine.
