Initial request

ECMWF is requesting new entries in Code Table 4.2 for our projects ERA6 and Destination Earth.

In this context, we are also requesting a new category "renewable energy sector" within discipline 20 "Health and socioeconomic impacts".

  • Sebastien introduced the issue
  • in 4.2.0.2 - proposing to deprecate two parameters, because they are in time seconds which is not correct, propose to replace the ones with wrong units with new codes with correct units. The current codes have a note stating that "accumulation does not change the units" (Marijana) can we change the units as an editorial change? (Sebastien) we usually don't do this (Jeff) It's probably safer to create new ones and add a note saying which ones to use instead (DECISION) add a note indicating which parameters to use instead. 
  • (Jeff) 4.20.21 new code -- Is there a category 21? (Sebastien) I think it's new for Thermal dynamics ... and is still in the FT2023-1 branch. (Jeff) What is eady growth rate? (Sebastien) Eady is a person's name (DECISION) add a note/reference

branch updated, still need to add the notes for deprecated. Trying to see if I could reuse an existing as it is a typical case of parameter wrongly having units of an accumulation.

for existing parameters that are deprecated due to their units, we have a typical type of comment : accumulation does not change the units, this parameter is deprecated, use a parameter with more suitable units). This is what I meant. So I will draft a note along these lines.

I added a note "Parameters are deprecated. It is recommended to use 63 and 64 instead."
