Dragon Survival - is global modification for Minecraft about playable dragons. It does not add new mounts in Minecraft, you become a dragon yourself! If you want to, of course. This wiki will have general information about mod, developers and content. We have an old wiki, but it is extremely hard to fix and much of the information there is outdated. This github wiki will be relevant for 1.18.2.

Important note: What is written inside the game and in patchnotes takes precedence over what you find here. You can find the patch notes on Discord and in the version descriptions in CF.

● About Dragon Survival

"I've always liked dragons and this wonderful game, but I've been playing alone and without modifications my whole life, until I accidentally came across this cultural phenomenon in 2020. I was fascinated by the amount of player-created content. There were so many mods created by them, many of which had to do with dragons. You could tame them, breed them, ride them, kill them, but in none of them could you BE a dragon. This really upset me. Being an artist very far from programming, modding and the minecraft community, I decided to take a risk and create my own mod. I had absolutely no knowledge or friends in this field. The only thing I had was a dream and the support of a community of dragon lovers. That's about how I became the developer of Dragon Survival. I hope that with time we'll solve all the old problems caused by inexperience, improve the graphical style and add everything we have planned."

■ The owner and main developer is BlackAures. This mod was created with great attention to detail. I'm a huge dragon fan and I put as much effort into making this mod as close to perfect as possible. We all love dragons and are willing to do a lot to make our dream come true - to play as a real dragon in Minecraft. We are all adults and develop in our own free time. The DS owner realized his own dream of creating a mod with dragons and most of the content is created just to realize that dream, not to make money or to please the community. We have our own unique atmosphere here, which is unlike most other mods.

■ The main modification language supported by the developers: English an Russian. The other translations are done by fans and may be not complete.

● Versions

  • Forge - only version we use and plan to stay here
  • Fabric - we had planned this porting, but alas, the plans did not come to fruition.

■ The mod is currently available for these Forge versions:

1.14 and older 1.15.х 1.16.х 1.17.х - 1.18.1 1.18.2 1.19.2 1.20.x +
No plans. It is not recommended to use this version. It is very outdated. Fully playable and contains a minimum of bugs. Not supported. Not planned. Basic Version. Recommended. Basic Version. Recommended. No plans in the near future

Warning to users: never ask for porting for other versions from any developers and don't create drama. It's very annoying, honestly.

● Links

  • Patreon - a stable way of financial support in exchange for early access, videos, unique concepts and information you won't find anywhere else. All news is duplicated on the discord server for convenience. Since the developer lives in Russia the withdrawal of money is difficult, but still possible with the help of friends.

  • Boosty - a platform for ordering a skin from the author and major financial support (100$). You can order a skin from the author of the mod and get a perpetual subscription without having to continue financial support. In discord you can see all the posts that are out there for patreon. Black Aures receives all financial support sent here.

  • Сurseforge - the only place where you can download mods and all updates. The author does not publish his mod anywhere else and is not responsible for viruses, which you can get on pirate sites. The same goes for any other mods.

  • Discord Server - the main place for communication. Here you can find servers to play together with other dragons and just chat. The author rarely shows up anywhere else. Please read the rules carefully and don't ask silly questions about verification.

  • Youtube - There are rarely any videos from the author about the art and the creation of the DS. Not a good place for your suggestions. Comments rarely get a response.

  • Github - is where programmers live, and this is the best place to send descriptions of your bugs. Do not use GitHub as a place for suggestions.

  • Twitter - there are very rarely new posts, but the developer reposts if someone mentions their account.

  • QQ (1327907782) - for Chinese friends

  • Chinese Wiki - this wiki, but in Chinese. Thanks to Nancala Starry and Gairlading

● FAQ

"Migration to version [...]?"

    • No porting. No. Not at all.

"Where are the mobile versions?"

    • It don't interest the author and are never planned. On very powerful devices you can try to run mobile Minecraft java with Forge, but it will be very unstable and we advise against it.

"What are you planning to add?"

    • Now the mod has gotten a release and I have no plans to expand the content. Absolutely everything I wanted has been added and now I want to focus on developing my own game. Dragon Survival will still receive updates, but don't expect anything global. Although maybe all of a sudden I'll get inspired and you'll get an unexpected amount of content ;)

"What are you NOT planning to add?"

    • We have no plans to: increase the size of dragons, new species, make dragons like background monsters, free transformation from dragon to human, many weapons, change world generation, etc. I have a huge number of reasons not to do this, please stop writing with suggestions like this. You can change a lot of things in the configs.

"I have lots of ideas!"

    • The author has his own plan to work on a mod for a couple of years to come, and if your proposal is not fueled by own desire to work, with a high probability of this idea will not be implemented. We read all of your suggestions, but we very rarely respond to them. Even better if you implement your own ideas yourself, rather than shifting the work to others.

"Does the mod have compatibility with X mod?"

    • There is a very small list of mods that DS has a problem with. Most of the food and recipes have automatic compatibility, which the author prescribed himself. If any food does not work, write to us in discord with the full id of the item.

"Where is firebreath and other magic?"

"Some things seem silly to me. Why do items fly near to the dragon? Does that make sense?"

    • Yes, this mod is based on my lore, which was created a long time ago and is gradually being finalized. If you don't like something uses the configs.

"How do I set up a mod? Where are settings?"

    • Each mod has a special file in which there are settings for the mod. How to remove the first-person model, how to make a dragon bigger, how to increase the chance of dust, return the player's nicknames, and so on? Just use a search inside the folder. More info here - Start and Setting

"Why not make the dragon model bigger?"

    • I think that all big models in Minecraft look awful and unnatural. The whole gameplay is designed for the player to be 2 blocks tall and anything bigger than that breaks the game. The idea of having a huge model is fun until you try to survive with it yourself. Trust me, you won't like the results. But if you don't believe me, just use the configs!

"I've found a bug and I'm ready to thoroughly describe it."

    • We would appreciate you to send logs, crash files and error descriptions to issues. Please do not forget to specify the version of the mod when this error occurs, single player or multiplayer, what version of forge and geckolib you have. Ideally, if you attach the file from the "crash" folder in .minecraft.

"Do you have your own game server to play with other dragons?"

    • You can find many servers with DS in Discord here, but there is no official server. It takes too much time and nerve.

"Are there any good modpacks?"

"Why don't you add the ability to turn from dragon to human all the time without losing progress?"

    • The answer is simple: DS is a mod about being a dragon, not a human! If you don't like it, use configs - saveGrowthStage and saveAllAbilities. But how can you call yourself a dragon after that?

"Why are there so few dragon? Where are wyverns, serpents, hydras?"

  • A lot of work - little profit. It's complicated and doesn't make much sense.

"New dragon species?"

  • Absolutely NO. The mod is planned strictly for 3 species and it was never planned to expand.

"I don't like the textures/models/animations"

"I want to create my own skin. Where can I download a model for skins and does it cost any money?"

  • Check the attached message at ▸faq in discord. Uploading your skins to our library is completely free, as long as you create the texture yourself rather than asking the mod author to draw it for you. The library currently contains approximately 500+ skins that players have made themselves. Be sure to read all the articles about creating skins so you can speed up your work and avoid making common mistakes. If you want, you can buy a skin from the author on Boosty and she will draw you any at your request (100$+).

"Will the magical predators return?"

    • Alas, I will most likely cancel this content.

"Why does the mod have a different name in different places?"

  • Originally the name of the mod was called "Dragons Survival", but over time we realized that it is difficult to use a name that contains 's . At a vote in discord it was decided to rename the mod to "Dragon Survival", but many things can no longer be renamed, so you can meet different variants of spelling. In general, both options are correct.

"How do I look for information about mods?"

  • First of all, check carefully what you can't find inside the game. There's a good chance it was right under your nose. There is nothing wrong if you ask about it, but it is better to look for the information yourself. No matter what exactly you're looking for or what mod it's related to, it's best to resort to this search tactic before asking for something:
  1. Open the page mods on Curseforge (this is the only place where 80% of the authors put their mods and all the information);
  2. Search there for a link to any Wiki or discord server. Most of the larger mods have their own wikipedia, while the smaller ones describe everything completely on their own CF page;
  3. Check out the latest comments on the CF page. Perhaps someone else has recently encountered the same issue as you.
  4. If you can not find information on the Wiki (or there is no wiki) go to the discord server of this mod and use the keyword search in all chats. For example, you need to know something about flying, write in the search words "wing" or "fly". There is a 98% chance someone already had a similar question to yours and it has an answer. Personally, I've used this method many times and have gotten information dozens of times faster than when you ask and wait for an answer yourself. This applies to absolutely any game.

"Where is Aternos?"

  • Please stop asking about Aternos and other hosts. I have nothing against them having my mod, but they are asking for permission to distribute the mod to all sites, not just their own. I don't want to do that. Ask them questions, not me.

"Why isn't the mod on [...] site/launcher/host?"

  • The author publishes his mod ONLY on CurseForge. We also allowed our Chinese colleagues to upload the mod to their site because they don't have access to CF. If you find our mod anywhere else, know that it's a pirated version. We are not responsible for any viruses you find there and we get no benefit from uploading to any resources and will never do so. When you visit CurseForge, all authors get a small percentage of the advertising this site shows. It's not much at all (about 50$ a year), but either way it gives all of us a little more support and a chance to get noticed. Please don't use pirate sites. It only benefits the scammers.
