Can't login

If you're using Bitlbee, you'll ideally want to use at least version 3.4.2. Otherwise, you won't get the URL you need to login. As a workaround for versions of Bitlbee (between 3.4.0 and 3.4.2) you can use the following URL https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/auth?client_id=936475272427.apps.googleusercontent.com&scope=https://www.google.com/accounts/OAuthLogin&redirect_uri=urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob&response_type=code

Please don't forget to save your config after submitting the code. Any version of Bitlbee older than 3.4.0 will not work as it doesn't provide a way to input the oauth code back to libpurple until then.

"Bad Request" error when logging on

Try resetting the password with account hangouts set password ""

All contacts are just numeric IDs

Run the follow command to change the format account hangouts set nick_format %full_name

"Warning: Protocol not found: 'hangouts'"

Make sure you include 'purple' support when installing/compiling bitlbee
