The `connected` value for wired devices was not properly initialized, it must be set to `true` upon creation, because wired devices do not generate connection events. When a raw client (the Steam Client) uses the device, the input device is destroyed. Then, when the raw client finishes, it must be recreated. But since the `connected` variable was false this never happended. …tions xt_entry_target, xt_entry_match and their private data may contain kernel data. Introduce helper functions xt_match_to_user, xt_target_to_user and xt_data_to_user that copy only the expected fields. These replace existing logic that calls copy_to_user on entire structs, then overwrites select fields. Private data is defined in xt_match and xt_target. All matches and targets that maintain kernel data store this at the tail of their private structure. Extend xt_match and xt_target with .usersize to limit how many bytes of data are copied. The remainder is cleared. If compatsize is specified, usersize can only safely be used if all fields up to usersize use platform-independent types. Otherwise, the compat_to_user callback must be defined. This patch does not yet enable the support logic. In matches and targets that define a kernel-only tail to their xt_match and xt_target data structs, add a field .usersize that specifies up to where data is to be shared with userspace. Performed a search for comment "Used internally by the kernel" to find relevant matches and targets. Manually inspected the structs to derive a valid offsetof. The error correction data is computed as if data and hash blocks were concatenated. But hash block number starts from v->hash_start. So, we have to calculate hash block number based on that. The arm64 ptdump code can race with concurrent modification of the kernel page tables. At the time this was added, this was sound as: * Modifications to leaf entries could result in stale information being logged, but would not result in a functional problem. * Boot time modifications to non-leaf entries (e.g. freeing of initmem) were performed when the ptdump code cannot be invoked. * At runtime, modifications to non-leaf entries only occurred in the vmalloc region, and these were strictly additive, as intermediate entries were never freed. However, since commit: commit 324420b ("arm64: add support for ioremap() block mappings") ... it has been possible to create huge mappings in the vmalloc area at runtime, and as part of this existing intermediate levels of table my be removed and freed. It's possible for the ptdump code to race with this, and continue to walk tables which have been freed (and potentially poisoned or reallocated). As a result of this, the ptdump code may dereference bogus addresses, which could be fatal. Since huge-vmap is a TLB and memory optimization, we can disable it when the runtime ptdump code is in use to avoid this problem. The `np->permission' structure is smaller than the `np' structure but sizeof(*np) worth of data is copied in there. Fix the size passed to copy_from_user() to avoid overrun. …hen kaslr is off Commit 1598ecd ("arm64: kaslr: ensure randomized quantities are clean to the PoC") added cache maintenance to ensure that global variables set by the kaslr init routine are not wiped clean due to cache invalidation occurring during the second round of page table creation. However, if kaslr_early_init() exits early with no randomization being applied (either due to the lack of a seed, or because the user has disabled kaslr explicitly), no cache maintenance is performed, leading to the same issue we attempted to fix earlier, as far as the module_alloc_base variable is concerned. Note that module_alloc_base cannot be initialized statically, because that would cause it to be subject to a R_AARCH64_RELATIVE relocation, causing it to be overwritten by the second round of KASLR relocation processing. … PoC kaslr_early_init() is called with the kernel mapped at its link time offset, and if it returns with a non-zero offset, the kernel is unmapped and remapped again at the randomized offset. During its execution, kaslr_early_init() also randomizes the base of the module region and of the linear mapping of DRAM, and sets two variables accordingly. However, since these variables are assigned with the caches on, they may get lost during the cache maintenance that occurs when unmapping and remapping the kernel, so ensure that these values are cleaned to the PoC. …graph tracing do_task_stat() calls get_wchan(), which further does unwind_frame(). unwind_frame() restores frame->pc to original value in case function graph tracer has modified a return address (LR) in a stack frame to hook a function return. However, if function graph tracer has hit a filtered function, then we can't unwind it as ftrace_push_return_trace() has biased the index(frame->graph) with a 'huge negative' offset(-FTRACE_NOTRACE_DEPTH). Moreover, arm64 stack walker defines index(frame->graph) as unsigned int, which can not compare a -ve number. Similar problem we can have with calling of walk_stackframe() from save_stack_trace_tsk() or dump_backtrace(). This patch fixes unwind_frame() to test the index for -ve value and restore index accordingly before we can restore frame->pc. Commit df04abf ("fs/proc/kcore.c: Add bounce buffer for ktext data") added a bounce buffer to avoid hardened usercopy checks. Copying to the bounce buffer was implemented with a simple memcpy() assuming that it is always valid to read from kernel memory iff the kern_addr_valid() check passed. A simple, but pointless, test case like "dd if=/proc/kcore of=/dev/null" now can easily crash the kernel, since the former execption handling on invalid kernel addresses now doesn't work anymore. Also adding a kern_addr_valid() implementation wouldn't help here. Most architectures simply return 1 here, while a couple implemented a page table walk to figure out if something is mapped at the address in question. With DEBUG_PAGEALLOC active mappings are established and removed all the time, so that relying on the result of kern_addr_valid() before executing the memcpy() also doesn't work. Therefore simply use probe_kernel_read() to copy to the bounce buffer. This also allows to simplify read_kcore(). At least on s390 this fixes the observed crashes and doesn't introduce warnings that were removed with df04abf ("fs/proc/kcore.c: Add bounce buffer for ktext data"), even though the generic probe_kernel_read() implementation uses uaccess functions. While looking into this I'm also wondering if kern_addr_valid() could be completely removed...(?) …t Stage 2 KVM only supports PMD hugepages at stage 2 but doesn't actually check that the provided hugepage memory pagesize is PMD_SIZE before populating stage 2 entries. In cases where the backing hugepage size is smaller than PMD_SIZE (such as when using contiguous hugepages), KVM can end up creating stage 2 mappings that extend beyond the supplied memory. Fix this by checking for the pagesize of userspace vma before creating PMD hugepage at stage 2. commit 26549d1 ("binder: guarantee txn complete / errors delivered in-order") passed the locally declared and undefined cmd to binder_stat_br() which results in a bogus cmd field in a trace event and BR stats are incremented incorrectly. A regression of the FTQ noise has been reported by Ying Huang, on the following hardware: 8 threads Intel(R) Core(TM)i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz with 8G memory ... which was caused by this commit: commit 4e51607 ("sched/fair: Propagate asynchrous detach") The only part of the patch that can increase the noise is the update of blocked load of group entity in update_blocked_averages(). We can optimize this call and skip the update of group entity if its load and utilization are already null and there is no pending propagation of load in the task group. This optimization partly restores the noise score. A more agressive optimization has been tried but has shown worse score. Since we need to change the implementation, stop exposing internals. Provide KREF_INIT() to allow static initialization of struct kref. [ this is a fix specific to 4.4.y and 4.9.y stable trees; 4.14.y and older already contain the right fix ] The stable 4.4.y and 4.9.y backports of the upstream commit add9d56 ("ALSA: pcm: Avoid possible info leaks from PCM stream buffers") dropped the check of substream->ops->copy_user as copy_user is a new member that isn't present in the older kernels. Although upstream drivers should work without this NULL check, it may cause a regression with a downstream driver that sets some inaccessible address to runtime->dma_area, leading to a crash at worst. Since such drivers must have ops->copy member on older kernels instead of ops->copy_user, this patch adds the missing check of ops->copy for fixing the regression. If the length of the socket buffer is 0xFFFFFFFF (max size for an unsigned int), then payload_len becomes 0xFFFFFFF1 after subtracting 14 (ETH_HLEN). Then, mdp_len is set to payload_len + 16 (MDP_HDR_LEN) which overflows and results in a value of 2. These values for payload_len and mdp_len will pass current buffer size checks. This patch checks if derived from skb->len sum may overflow. The check is based on the following idea: For any `unsigned V1, V2` and derived `unsigned SUM = V1 + V2`, `V1 + V2` overflows iif `SUM < V1`. The hid-nintendo driver supports the Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers and the Joy-Cons. The Pro Controllers can be used over USB or Bluetooth. For the bpf syscall, we are relying on the compiler to properly zero out the bpf_attr union that we copy userspace data into. Unfortunately that doesn't always work properly, padding and other oddities might not be correctly zeroed, and in some tests odd things have been found when the stack is pre-initialized to other values. Fix this by explicitly memsetting the structure to 0 before using it. Binder is designed such that a binder_proc never has references to itself. If this rule is violated, memory corruption can occur when a process sends a transaction to itself; see e.g. <https://syzkaller.appspot.com/bug?extid=09e05aba06723a94d43d>. There is a remaining edgecase through which such a transaction-to-self can still occur from the context of a task with BINDER_SET_CONTEXT_MGR access: - task A opens /dev/binder twice, creating binder_proc instances P1 and P2 - P1 becomes context manager - P2 calls ACQUIRE on the magic handle 0, allocating index 0 in its handle table - P1 dies (by closing the /dev/binder fd and waiting a bit) - P2 becomes context manager - P2 calls ACQUIRE on the magic handle 0, allocating index 1 in its handle table [this triggers a warning: "binder: 1974:1974 tried to acquire reference to desc 0, got 1 instead"] - task B opens /dev/binder once, creating binder_proc instance P3 - P3 calls P2 (via magic handle 0) with (void*)1 as argument (two-way transaction) - P2 receives the handle and uses it to call P3 (two-way transaction) - P3 calls P2 (via magic handle 0) (two-way transaction) - P2 calls P2 (via handle 1) (two-way transaction) And then, if P2 does *NOT* accept the incoming transaction work, but instead closes the binder fd, we get a crash. Solve it by preventing the context manager from using ACQUIRE on ref 0. There shouldn't be any legitimate reason for the context manager to do that. Additionally, print a warning if someone manages to find another way to trigger a transaction-to-self bug in the future. …ching to init_mm update_saved_ttbr0 mandates that mm->pgd is not swapper, since swapper contains kernel mappings and should never be installed into ttbr0. However, this means that callers must avoid passing the init_mm to update_saved_ttbr0 which in turn can cause the saved ttbr0 value to be out-of-date in the context of the idle thread. For example, EFI runtime services may leave the saved ttbr0 pointing at the EFI page table, and kernel threads may end up with stale references to freed page tables. This patch changes update_saved_ttbr0 so that the init_mm points the saved ttbr0 value to the empty zero page, which always exists and never contains valid translations. EFI and switch can then call into update_saved_ttbr0 unconditionally. But there are too many printk() on the kmalloc() path, and kmalloc() can be called from anywhere, so changing printk() to printk_deferred() is too complicated and inelegant. Therefore, this patch chooses to specify __GFP_NOWARN to kmalloc(), so that printk() will not be called, and this deadlock problem can be avoided. A transaction of type BINDER_TYPE_WEAK_HANDLE can fail to increment the reference for a node. In this case, the target proc normally releases the failed reference upon close as expected. However, if the target is dying in parallel the call will race with binder_deferred_release(), so the target could have released all of its references by now leaving the cleanup of the new failed reference unhandled. The transaction then ends and the target proc gets released making the ref->proc now a dangling pointer. Later on, ref->node is closed and we attempt to take spin_lock(&ref->proc->inner_lock), which leads to the use-after-free bug reported below. A transaction of type BINDER_TYPE_WEAK_HANDLE can fail to increment the reference for a node. In this case, the target proc normally releases the failed reference upon close as expected. However, if the target is dying in parallel the call will race with binder_deferred_release(), so the target could have released all of its references by now leaving the cleanup of the new failed reference unhandled. The transaction then ends and the target proc gets released making the ref->proc now a dangling pointer. Later on, ref->node is closed and we attempt to take spin_lock(&ref->proc->inner_lock), which leads to the use-after-free bug reported below. @derfelot Started with the UPSTREAM... commits as those should be the least controversion according to your comment at whatawurst#33 (comment) as they should eventually land in our CAF 4.14. According to https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/ "UPSTREAM" means that those commits are already in Linux mainline (somewhere), so maybe the 21 commits present here won't get backported? Some look important enough to me though.
I also include the already merged upstream backports as empty commits (the last 8) so a future comparison of the android-4-14-p branch doesn't show them again
FYI: 25 ANDROID commits are missing. 7 related to cuttlefish, ~10 to some usb related fixes and cleanups
Will tackle those once the current 3 PRs are resolved (whatawurst#35 [tested], whatawurst#36 [this target branch for easier comparison and merge in one go])
