Forsaken is generally described as a 6DoF (Degrees of Freedom) first person shooter. Meaning players can move in any direction and rotate along any axis, without being affected by gravity. Only a few games of this type have ever been created, namely Forsaken and the Descent series.
Forsaken Planet is still a great resource on game play information. It covers single/multiplayer modes, weapons, and some basic tactics.
It is now actively maintained mainly by the community (Forsaken and Descent players) and a few other contributors over time.
The code base is a fork of the final patch release with various bug fixes and new features.
It has been fully ported to run on cross platform technologies and currently officially supports Linux, MacOSX and Windows.
We are also working to replace the original data pack with new textures, sounds and other assets.
See the Development and Porting Info sections for detailed information on the Forsaken engine.
See the Milestones for current development efforts.
You may also want to take note of the License-faq if you want to copy any of the work.
The original code can be found at commit 1.
The textures were updated to png but the original bmp images can be found at commit 1 of the data folder.
These are new prototype engines and tools being built by the developers.
Methods hosts two prototype engines:
There is also a prototype using Blender game engine:
