The issue was caused by changes to alignment and related method signatures in the following PR: JuliaLang/julia#13825.
This admittedly doesn't address the need for better documentation concerning how our
showscheme fits into that of Base. And probably the compatibility issues could have been worked out more gracefully. But at least the package is useable once again.
